“The National IT Leadership Symposium, Where Industry Leaders Meet to Shape the Future” – Monday, June 2nd

In the Monday morning Keynote, Peter High, Forbes Columnist and Author of World Class IT: Why Businesses Succeed When IT Triumphs, shared his insights into “The Customer-Experience Centric IT Department.” In Peter’s presentation, he discussed the new way to win the marketplace is not based on product or price, but instead on customer experience. In order to meet the needs of customers in the future, above-baseline investment may be needed to address neglected infrastructure for companies that were not “born digital.” Positioning IT to be as close to the customers as possible in order to understand their needs is critical to enable IT-led customer innovation. And lastly, Digital Customer Experience Management (CEM) must be omni-channel optimized across the entire customer lifecycle. To obtain a copy of Peter’s presentation, send an email to peter.high@metisstrategy.com

Eric Singleton, CIO of Chico’s FAS, presented on the “Digital Retail Theatre,” their innovative technology to help drive revenue and increase customer satisfaction. Eric and his team are on a journey to build an environment that maximizes their customers’ experiences no matter what channel is used.

After the morning break, Geoff Aranoff, Chief Information Security Officer of Broadcom, participated in the interview session, “The Security Agenda for the Future,” with Symposium Emcee Richard Warner. During the interview, Geoff shared insights into trends and expectations for the future and also discussions and the metrics he is sharing with his CEO and business units relative to cloud, data analytics, mobile devices/BYOD/social and cyber & insider threats.

Grant Asplund, Senior Technology Evangelist for Blue Coat, Platinum Sponsor, provided the latest updates and trends from their research team on Advanced Threat Protection. Grant described the industry shifting to a focus of a more modern defense-in-depth strategy—one that provides the intelligence, context, and real-time situational awareness needed to block, detect and respond to today’s advanced cyber threats. Download the presentation.

After lunch, Adam Cuzzort of Anacore and Missy Knotts and Melissa Zoccola of electronic evolutions (e2), Silver Sponsors, presented on their cutting edge interactive video wall that supports large screen visualization, conceptualization and collaboration. The wall was displayed in the Sponsor Pavilion for guests to demo the latest multi-touch collaborative technologies that makes a meeting experience more intuitive and immersive for participants. Multiple people in different locations can simultaneously connect to on-screen data to visually formulate ideas as well as interact with data.

There was plenty of time for group discussion and questions throughout the two day Symposium. Pictured is Raymond Ayala, Chief Technology Officer of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas.

As the wrap up to the first day, guests had the opportunity to break out into peer-to-peer discussions across a variety of topics. The roundtable discussions were facilitated by senior IT executives that included: Josephine Young, Chief Information Officer of TelePacific Communications Corp., John Kuemmel, Chief Technology Officer of Triad Retail Media, David Less, Chief Information Officer & SVP of Sunteck Transport Co., Tim Chew, Vice President, Technical Services at Family Dollar Stores, Joel P. Bandy, Chief Information Security Officer of Presbyterian Communities and Services and Charles Newberry, Director of the Information Security Officer, Turner Broadcasting. Pictured talking at one of the roundtable discussions is Edward Anderson, Global Chief Information Officer of World Vision.

During the evening reception, sponsors, attendees and their guests had a chance to relax and continue the day’s discussions.

Jeff shared with the attendees his CEO’s expectations of building out a vision that is “actionable and affordable.”

In the session, “Strategies in Action,” Jeanette Berninghaus, Vice President of the Information Security Office at Turner Broadcasting and Tim Searcy, Chief Information Security Officer of Protective Life Corporation shared their insights into their security strategies and direction to protect their organizations. Jeanette and Tim discussed how their responsibilities are evolving as security has become a critical focus for the C-suite. Both are looking for creative ways to mentor top talent for retention and also for new hires. “The Digital Retail Theatre”

Elliott GlazerEric Singleton

There is SO much discussion about Omnichannel these days and a hundred definitions of what it is or what it isn’t. Now you can add one more description to your list! Omnichannel is theatre – “a place or sphere of enactment of usually significant events or action”.

This is why I call Omnichannel the “digital retail theatre”. Think of every platform, and every actionable event that can occur or be made to occur on any device for a consumer as a continuum. We wake up in the morning and dive for our iPhone to check this and check that, and along the way we land on one of our favorite apps and *boink* we DO something. Then we toss our iPhone in our pocket or purse, and speed off to the rest of our day. In the hours that follow we will use our PC, our tablet, our iPhone again etc, and all the while we are crossing through the intersections of art and technology. You are IN the “sphere of enactment” where “significant events or action” IS occuring! Make no mistake, this is true.

You are “in” the digital retail theatre.

This presentation will discuss the innovative technology and techniques that can make this theory into reality, and drive revenue and customer delight like never before!
